Long Sault Conservation Area

Story by EcoSpark-

Long Sault Conservation Area is located in the Oak Ridges Moraine, just 20 km North of Bowmanville. It includes a mature forest, plantations, wetlands and meadows. Owned and managed by Central Lake Ontario Conservation, Long Sault Conservation Area’s creation was driven by watershed management initiatives to reduce the risk of catastrophic flooding in Ontario.

There are many benefits provided by this large and diverse conservation area.  In addition to flood mitigation, Long Sault Conservation Area provides environmental protection and recreational opportunities. It is 400 hectares (1,650 acres) and offers various outdoor activities such as year-round access to 18 km of trails, wildlife viewing, cross-country skiing, mountain biking and even dog sledding, upon approval. Long Sault Conservation Area is an example of the many benefits provided to local communities through environmental protection.
